From Summer Cottage to Year-Round Home

Does converting a cottage to year-round use need a permit?

The conversion work does — insulating and re-cladding, structural and foundation upgrades, new heating and ventilation are all regulated construction. The right first step is an assessment of your specific building; we do that and then draw exactly what the permit application needs.

We're only in Wasaga on weekends. Can the project still move?

Yes — that is normal for our Wasaga clients. Consultations and design reviews happen by phone and video, drawings move by email, and we coordinate site visits around when you are at the property.

Can you tell us whether an old cottage is worth converting before we spend?

That is exactly what the initial assessment is for. Some cottages convert economically; for others, a rebuild makes more sense than upgrading a structure that was never built for winter. We give you that answer honestly before design work begins.
